Mini Programming Awards

Background

The Network of the National Library of Medicine (NNLM) All of Us Mini Programming Awards will provide funding to library and community-based organization programs to meet the following goals:

  • Raise awareness of All of Us, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) precision medicine research program.
  • Build and strengthen partnerships with communities who are Underrepresented in Biomedical Research (UBR). Descriptions (PDF, 144 KB)
  • Further individual and communities’ health and health literacy, digital literacy, and/or public understanding of clinical research.
  • Further individual and communities’ understanding of and participation in citizen science activities.
  • Increase awareness and use of NNLM All of Us learning activities, National Library of Medicine (NLM) resources, and other trustworthy health information resources to inform personal health and wellness decisions.

Amount: up to $5,000
Number of awards available: at least 13

This award will support NNLM members to:

Possible projects include:

  • Promote Citizen Science Month using downloadable, customizable educational resources including bookmarks, flyers, posters, social media images, and other existing assets (or awardees can create their own Citizen Science Month promotions).
  • Incorporate NLM/NNLM online activity modules and materials into programming.
  • Host digital literacy programming that incorporates health literacy concepts.
  • Host, co-host, or promote a Citizen Science Month event in April using freely available planning and promotional resources and the Library & Community Guide to Citizen Science from SciStarter.
  • Engage community members in citizen science projects found on SciStarter.org/NLM or other projects of interest to your community. Find thousands of projects to choose from by using the Project Finder on SciStarter and filter by location, audience, or topic.

Funding Restrictions: Food, promotional items, and furniture are not allowable expenses. For more information on allowable costs, refer to the NIH Grants Policy.

All sub-awards are cost reimbursement and are issued to the organization, not the individual. Line-item invoices must be submitted for reimbursement of expenditures.

Important Dates

  • Accepting Applications Until: January 6, 2022 (extended from December 3, 2021)
  • Application Review: January 10-14, 2022
  • Award Decision: January 21, 2022
  • Funded Projects Completed By: April 30, 2022

Please note: applications that were received on or before December 3, 2021 are in review. Award decision will be shared with the applicant no later than 5 PM ET on December 17.

Eligibility

To be eligible to apply, your organization must be:

  • An NNLM member. Not yet a member? Sign up for free! We strongly encourage first-time NNLM award applicants and new NNLM members to apply!
  • A community-serving organization (library, community-based organization, etc.) or partnering with a community-serving organization for the project.
  • Based in the United States and/or U.S. Territories.

For full consideration, your application and required supplemental documentation must be submitted via email to aoutec@pitt.edu(link sends e-mail) by January 6, 2022 at 11:59 PM in your time zone. TEC staff will be available via email that day until 5 PM ET.

How We Evaluate Your Proposal

Reviewers will score applications based on the NNLM All of Us Mini Programming Award Evaluation Rubric (DOCX, 16.2 KB). High quality proposals will clearly:

  • Align with NNLM All of Us Mini Award goals
  • Show evidence of need for the project in your community
  • Facilitate meaningful engagement with UBR communities in your area
  • Outline a feasible work plan to ensure the project’s success

Award decisions will be sent to applicants by email and publicized via NNLM public communication channels. Formal email communication from the TEC will come from aoutec@pitt.edu(link sends e-mail).
